STATEMENT ON THE KIDNAPPING OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE NORTH-WEST COURT OF APPEAL, MR NCHANG AUGUSTIN
A news report currently circulating on social networks, which we mention with all reservations, states that the Attorney General of the North-West Court of Appeal, Mr NCHANG Augustin, would have been kidnapped in Bamenda on 29 December 2024.
If this information were confirmed, it would be in addition to the abduction followed by serious physical torture of the Sub-Divisional Officer of IDABATO, in the South West Region, Mr EWANE Roland, during the night of 1st to 2nd October 2024.
Several months after his abduction, there is still no news of this servant of the State, whose fate no longer seems to be of concern at the highest levels of government.
The truth of this latest kidnapping would be a further reminder to the victim’s family and to the Nation of the absurdity of the continuation of this armed conflict, which continues unabated and whose resolution remains in the hands of the State.
The President of the Republic is said to be the most informed citizen in the country, which would be perfectly normal. The kidnapping of the unfortunate Attorney General is said to have taken place on the evening of 29 December. How, then, did the President of the Republic fail to offer a word of compassion to the family of the senior magistrate during his address to the nation on 31 December 2024? He preferred to turn a blind eye to the reality of the country’s security problems, which continue to claim victims, and to repeat, like a mantra, the uniqueness and indivisibility of the country, as if this constituted an obstacle to resolving the Anglophone crisis.
How can we understand that, in the absence of the Head of State, the Prime Minister, head of Government, has not reacted, several days now after the alleged kidnapping?
With all due reservations, on my own behalf and on behalf of the CRM militants and sympathisers, on behalf of all peace-loving Cameroonians, I express to the family of the senior magistrate, NCHANG Augustin, my sincere compassion and my total solidarity.
The CRM calls on his kidnappers not to endanger his life or torture him in any way.
The CRM urges the country’s current leaders to show empathy towards any Cameroonian in distress, especially when a representative of the State finds himself in such a dramatic situation while carrying out his duties.
The CRM invites the Government to finally and urgently communicate on the fate of this high magistrate, for the morale of the Nation, and in particular that of the civil servants called upon to be deployed throughout the national territory.
Signed in Yaoundé on 02 January 2024
Maurice KAMTO, National President of the CRM, candidate of the CRM and the PAC in the forthcoming presidential elections.
